# What is a Moot? A _Moot_ is an Old English word for a meeting or assembly — often held in a pub, the traditional heart of the community. The modern Pagan community has embraced the term for informal gatherings that are open to all, in contrast to private ritual circles or closed coven spaces. Moots offer a space where like-minded pagans, witches, wizards, tarot readers, magicians, heathens — whatever name one chooses — can meet, talk, share ideas, plan projects, and exchange gossip. They’re a chance to step outside one's own magical bubble and engage with others from different traditions and backgrounds. ## Magic without Tears Moot Recently, Marco Visconti revived the [Moot for Magicians](https://www.facebook.com/groups/mwtpubmoot) in London, held at the Fitzroy Tavern — once the local haunt of Aleister Crowley and artist Augustus John. I shared my impressions of the event here: [[Visiting the Magic Without Tears Moot]], with more historical background on the pub itself here: [[Fitzroy Tavern; Meeting Place of Artists — and Aleister Crowley]]. My visit was truly inspiring. There’s something powerful about chatting face-to-face with other magicians and practitioners. It’s all too easy to become isolated within the comfort zone of one’s own magical system and beliefs. Moots break down those walls. Conveniently, the London Moot wraps up around 9pm — perfect for me to catch the train back to Brighton without hassle. ## Where is the Brighton Moot? Energised by the experience, I began looking for a similar Moot closer to home, in Brighton and Hove. To my surprise (and disappointment), there doesn’t appear to be one at present. Which raises the question: **What would it take to revive a Moot here in Brighton — open to pagans, magicians, witches, tarot readers, psychics, and seekers of all kinds?** If you're local and interested, perhaps it’s time to start a conversation. Are you based in Brighton, Hove, or the surrounding area? Would you be interested in a regular Moot — a friendly, informal meet-up for tarot readers, pagans, magicians, witches, and fellow travellers on the path? I’d love to hear from others who might feel the same need for connection and conversation. If this sparks your interest, drop me a message via the [[About Paul/Contact]] page. Let’s see if we can bring a bit of the magical community spirit back to Brighton’s pubs.
