# TARO or Tarot? The Sacred Spelling of the Cards [[Eliphas Levi]] once wrote that the final **"t"** in **Tarot** signifies a return to the beginning, completing the circle — the sacred wheel that turns endlessly upon itself. There is a subtle but important distinction in spelling that speaks directly to the mystical roots of the tradition. The word **TARO** sums to **671**, which corresponds to **ADNY** (_Adonai_, "The Lord") spelled in full. This number forms part of the kabbalistic foundation underpinning the system of the _taro_. Out of habit, and for the sake of clarity, I often write **"tarot"**, simply because it is the familiar spelling recognised by most readers. However, in my forthcoming book, I prefer to use **taro** — a choice that feels closer to the heart of the work. At times, I also use **rota** (_the wheel_) interchangeably with **taro**, highlighting the cyclical nature of the system, the turning of the wheel, and the continuous flow between beginning and end. Names carry power. Sometimes the smallest variations speak volumes. #tarot #taro #eliphas-levi #rota --- ### Contact me The circle is open — if the work calls to you, or if you simply wish to say hello, you're most welcome.
